When to consider a psychiatric evaluation for your child
- Attention, hyperactivity or impulsivity affecting school or friendships
- Worry, fears, or stomachaches and headaches without a medical cause
- Sadness, irritability or withdrawal lasting more than a couple of weeks
- Frequent meltdowns or behavior changes that are hard to manage at home or school
- Repetitive behaviors or rituals your child feels they must do
- Sleep problems, or changes after a stressful or traumatic event
- A pediatrician, therapist or school has suggested a psychiatric evaluation
How we work with families
- Parents are partners. A parent or legal guardian participates in the evaluation and treatment decisions.
- Teens get a voice. Adolescents have private time to talk, with clear explanations of what stays confidential and what doesn't.
- School matters. With your permission, we can review teacher input and support 504 plan or IEP discussions.
- Team approach. We coordinate with pediatricians, therapists and other providers when you want us to.
- Conservative, careful prescribing. Medication is considered carefully for young patients and closely monitored when used.
Conditions we treat in children and teens
ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma-related symptoms, sleep problems and mood concerns.
Telehealth works well for families
No missed school for a cross-town drive and no waiting rooms. Kids are often more relaxed at home, which can make visits more natural. Your child needs to be physically in Arizona for each visit, and a parent or guardian should be available, especially for younger children.
What we don't provide
We don't provide psychological or educational testing, therapy, or care for children under 6. If your child needs these, we're glad to help you find the right resource.
Common questions
Does my child need to be present for the whole first visit?
For most of it. We'll usually talk with the parent and child together, and with each separately, depending on age.
Will you talk with my child's school?
With your written permission, we can review teacher rating scales and school records and provide documentation that supports school accommodations.
Do you treat children under 6?
No. We see children starting at age 6. For younger children, we recommend starting with your pediatrician, who can refer to a specialist in early childhood.
