Psychiatric medication management in Arizona

Thoughtful prescribing and consistent follow-up, so you understand your medication, how it's working and what comes next.

How medication management works

Psychiatric medication management is the ongoing process of choosing, starting, monitoring and adjusting medications for conditions like ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD and PTSD. It happens through regular telehealth follow-up visits with the same clinician.

  1. Evaluation first. Medication decisions are based on a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation.
  2. Shared decision. We discuss options, expected benefits, side effects, costs and alternatives, including non-medication approaches.
  3. Careful start. Medications are typically started at a sensible dose and adjusted gradually.
  4. Regular follow-up. Visits every few weeks at first, then spaced out as things stabilize.
  5. Monitoring. Lab work, vital signs or rating scales when appropriate for your medication.

The whole-person difference

Medication works best when everything else that affects mental health is considered too. We look at sleep, other medications and supplements, medical conditions, metabolic health and daily routines, all of which can change how well a medication works and which side effects appear. The goal is the most benefit with the fewest medications and side effects possible.

Already taking psychiatric medication?

We're happy to take over management of existing medications or to review a regimen that isn't working well. Please bring a list of current and past medications, with doses if you know them. If you're transferring care, records from your previous prescriber are very helpful.

Controlled medications

Some psychiatric medications, including ADHD stimulants and benzodiazepines, are controlled substances. When clinically appropriate, they're prescribed in accordance with DEA and Arizona requirements, including review of the Arizona Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring Program, a treatment agreement and regular follow-up. A prescription is never guaranteed and depends on the evaluation.
