Therapy

Therapy as part of your care

Practical, evidence-informed therapy from the same clinician who knows your full history, so your care fits together instead of being split across offices.

Therapy and treatment in one place

At Joy Integrative Psychiatry, therapy is part of treatment, not an add-on. Visits can include focused therapy work alongside your evaluation and ongoing care, whether or not medication is part of your plan. Because Erika already knows your symptoms, health history, sleep and goals, therapy can target what matters most for you.

Approaches we use

  • Supportive psychotherapy. A steady, collaborative space to work through stress, life changes and symptoms, and to build on what's already working.
  • Psychoeducation. Clear explanations of what's happening and why, so you and your family understand the condition and the plan.
  • CBT-informed strategies. Practical tools from cognitive behavioral therapy for anxious thinking, low mood and unhelpful patterns.
  • Motivational interviewing. A respectful way to explore change, strengthen your own reasons for it and set goals that feel doable.
  • Mindfulness-based strategies. Skills for stress, worry and emotional regulation that you can use between visits.
  • Behavioral interventions for ADHD. Routines, structure and organization strategies for home, school and work. For younger children, this often includes working with parents.
  • Sleep-focused behavioral strategies. Changes to routines and habits that improve sleep, which in turn supports mood, focus and anxiety. More on sleep and mental health.

Who it's for

Therapy is available to patients of the practice, children 6 and older, teens and adults, as part of their care. It fits well for ADHD, anxiety, depression, sleep concerns, stress and adjustment to life changes.

When a specialist therapist is the better fit

Some conditions respond best to specialized, structured therapies, such as exposure and response prevention (ERP) for OCD, or trauma-focused therapies like CPT, PE or EMDR for PTSD. When that's the right fit, we'll say so, help you find a specialist, and coordinate care with them. If you already have a therapist, we're glad to work alongside them.

Common questions

Do you provide therapy?

Yes. Therapy is part of care at Joy Integrative Psychiatry, including supportive psychotherapy, psychoeducation, CBT-informed strategies, motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based strategies, and behavioral strategies for ADHD and sleep.

Do I have to take medication to get therapy?

No. Medication is always a shared decision, and some patients' plans focus on therapy and other non-medication approaches.

I already have a therapist. Can I still be seen?

Yes. Many patients keep their current therapist, and we coordinate with them, with your consent.

Is therapy covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on your plan. Please see our insurance page or call us to confirm before your visit.
