If you've only had a quick video check-in with a doctor, a telehealth psychiatric visit may feel different: longer, more conversational, and more focused on you. Here's what to expect.
What a visit feels like
You'll join a secure video link at your appointment time. Your clinician can see and hear you, just like in an office. Many people find it easier to open up from a familiar space, and kids are often more relaxed at home.
Tips for a good visit
- Find a private space. A parked car, closet or bedroom with the door closed works.
- Use headphones if others are nearby.
- Sit facing a light source rather than a window behind you.
- Join 5 minutes early to check your camera, microphone and connection.
- Keep your medication list and questions nearby.
- Don't drive during a visit.
Prescriptions and labs
Prescriptions are sent electronically to your Arizona pharmacy. If lab work is needed, it's ordered to a lab near you and results come back to your clinician.
Privacy
Visits use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, and your health information is kept in a protected health record.
You must be in Arizona
Licensing rules require you to be physically in Arizona during each visit. If you're traveling, let us know and we'll reschedule.
When telehealth isn't the right fit
Telehealth isn't for emergencies or for situations that need close in-person monitoring or a higher level of care. If that's the case, we'll help you find the right setting. In a crisis, call or text 988 or call 911.
